2011 Natural Living and Herbal Health Class

Dates: 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month
January 16th to September 4th

Cost: Suggested donation of $10 per class

Childcare available but a separate donation of $1 per hour per child is recommended

Class Schedule:
January 16th– Learn about how our current food system evolved over time. What heirloom, organic, and natural labels mean. How to read the ingredients on food labels. What to buy and what to avoid when you shop for yourself and your family.

February 6th – Is your spice cabinet also a medicine cabinet? I think so!!! Come learn some basics on your spice cabinet and how to expand and use it! Sample food using everyday healthy herbs and spices most of us already have.

February 20th – Having trouble sleeping, have a cold, sore muscles. Learn how to make teas, herbal teas, and decoctions to help with basic health and well being.

March 6th – Essential Oil made from herbs and preserving herbs in oil for health, cooking, lotions, etc. We will make an herbal oil sample for home use. Discuss what herbs work well in oil and how to use them for cooking.

March 20th – Learn to use your herbal oils to make lotions. With winter in the air do you find your skin drying out or is it too oily at certain times of the year? Learn about our skin, the biggest organ on our body, and how to make herbal lotions and lip balms that will help all skin types.

April 3rd – Now that you know more about your skin learn how to make soaps that are natural and what might be added or removed from your current soap. Most people are surprised when they realize what they are putting on themselves each and every day.

April 17th – COPD, asthma, wheezing, trouble breathing. Learn about respiratory health and all of the things that affect your respiratory system. We will discuss minerals, herbs, diet and lifestyle changes that can affect your respiratory system.

May 1st – Learn to clean your house naturally. Now that you know more about your skin and respiratory system come learn how to improve your home environment while keeping it sanitary and clean.

May 15th – Starting an herb garden. Come learn about some basic herbs that are easy to grow but may be invasive if not contained properly. Learn how to decide if you want to add “food” to your landscaping, start a garden, grow in raised beds or pots and how to get started.

June 5th – Skin and spa beauty at home! Come and pamper yourself with great tips on facial scrubs, hair conditioner, skin toners, etc. that you can whip up right out of your pantry!

June 19th — No class Father’s Day

July 3rd – Before summer kicks in we will learn helpful tips for dealing with what comes with it, BUGS! Learn natural pesticides for yourself, your children, your pets, your garden and your house.

July 17th – First aid at home and on the road.

August 7th – Preventive Herbal Health and herbal capsule making. Food, meat, and diet as Healthcare… (Vegan, vegetarian lifestyle and examples of why)

August 21st – Preserving your harvest. Learn about canning and drying herbs and foods for winter use.

September 4th – Common Chronic Diseases and how to get your doctor to work with you on Natural lifestyle changes.

September 18th – EAT! We will have a potluck meal with everyone making foods that incorporate what we’ve learned and sharing what and why they made their dish with the class.
